The Chieftain Sofa | Finn Juhl | 1949

Alongside the impressive Chieftain Chair, Finn Juhl and cabinetmaker Niels Vodder introduced the Chieftain Sofa in 1949. While the Chieftain Chair quickly went into production, only two Chieftain Sofas are known to have been made. Today, it stands as one of the most exclusive pieces in the collection and remains part of Designmuseum Danmark’s permanent collection of modern Danish furniture. The sofa is upholstered by hand in Denmark from extra large hides of the finest quality. The Chieftain Sofa is manufactured in oak or walnut upholstered in leather.

About the Chieftain Sofa

A Part of Danish Design History

While the Chieftain Chair immediately went into production, there was, as far as we know, only produced two Chieftain Sofas.

At Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen where the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibitions originally took place, the sofa is still part of the museum’s permanent collection of modern Danish furniture.
