The 46 Armchair | Finn Juhl | 1946
Finn Juhl originally designed the elegant 46 Armchair in 1946 for master cabinetmaker Niels Vodder. The chair is crafted in oak or walnut and hand-upholstered in textile or leather in Denmark.

The Original Chair
Unmatched Lightness and Comfort
The 46 Chair reflects Finn Juhl's fascination with historical artifacts, traditional tools, and foreign cultures – and, not least, his search for "the original chair." Its composite expression also reveals his joy in shaping an armrest that follows the natural angle of the arm, allowing the user to rest comfortably while making full use of the chair's generous width.
In 1943, Finn Juhl further developed the design for the furniture company Bovirke, and it is precisely this model we produce today. Here, his intention was clearly to give the chair greater lightness by separating the carrying and the carried elements – the very same design approach seen in the iconic 45 Chair. The 46 Chair is crafted in solid walnut or oak and upholstered in fabric or leather. It is also available in a version without armrests.
